This world doesn’t belong to them; it belongs to us.
HBO has released the first trailer for Westworld’s second season at the 2017 San Diego Comic Con.
The trailer is successful in putting an end to complaints and criticism regarding the show’s slow-moving storyline.
The trailer begins with the piano starting up just like it used to in the first season. Normally, the “hosts” would then come to life and the day would pass by until the piano stopped.
However, this time the music sheet is covered in blood.
All hell breaks loose once the trailer progresses. Season 1 followed the steady buildup to the robotic uprising that ultimately became a reality in the finale. And so, this time it is clear that the “hosts” are ready to fight back.
Returning to the series are fan favorite “hosts” Bernard Lowe (Jeffrey Wright), Dolores Abernathy/Wyatt (Evan Rachel Wood), Teddy Flood (James Marsden) and Maeve Millay (Thandie Newton).
One of the most entertaining elements of the trailer is the song “I’ve Gotta Be Me” playing in the background. Sammy Davis Jr. sings ‘I’ve gotta be free’ while Dolores and Teddy ride on horses, and shoot humans as if they were the “guests” in Westworld this time.
Having killed Dr. Robert Ford (Anthony Hopkins) in the season finale, Dolores’s face shows no sign of mercy for any “guest” coming in her way.
Chaos and violence is all that is left in the amusement park. Dead bodies are seen lying around; a man is tied upside down from a tree while trying to reach a gun. An unsettling promise that next season will disappoint anyone who is rooting for Team Humans.
Some of the park’s team including Lee Sizemore (Simon Quarterman) and Ashley Stubbs (Luke Hemsworth) also appear in the trailer.
The final shot shows the Man in the Black (Ed Harris) smiling smugly with blood splattered across his face.
Considering that the second season has only been under production since last week, all of the scenes are executed brilliantly.
